Noone wanted one because it was just a minor modification of the existing UI that was mouse driven…so it was pretty crap to use. Also it cost about 2x as much as the iPad did at launch… even old billy gates admits he got it wrong.
I think that sci fi rarely predicts anything. The engineers who goes on and create new technologies, might be heavily inspired by sci fi shows they saw as youngsters, thus trying to create real life versions of the stuff from those shows.
