Yep, that dog is already an adult and large breeds usually only live 11 - 14 years. That kid is so close to that dog, he will be traumatized when it dies. It's really sad, but it's fact. I have nothing to add except that I went through that when I was about 11 and I still remember that dog vividly.

My Labrador loved my son at that age too.. Toddlers are like walking vending machines for dogs.
