Basta Island in Norway is the location of a prison where criminals live in relative luxury. Inmates can live in separate housing or in wooden houses that sleep six. They are free to walk around, swim in the fjord, play tennis, go to the gym, visit the library or enjoy the sauna. They work from 08:30am to 15:30pm and then have free time to do what they want to. Approximately 115 prisoners live on the island and are either serving life sentences or are convicted of serious crimes such as drugs, robbery and murder.
