Were sheep always domesticated? if not what would happen to a sheep after a few years of wool growth? I doubt that it would be able to walk.

They used to shed their fleece.
With wool prices being less than the cost of shearing in most places, many people have switched to sheep that shed again. My neighbor has some. They leave chunks of wool in the fields.
