I seem to recall that polar bears are the only predators on the planet that (as a species) routinely hunt humans. Most man eaters are opportunists, or individuals that acquire a taste.
actually, this kind of thing happens all the time in the wild amongst sea life, birds, etc. all the plastic disposable crap we toss in the oceans slowly disintegrates and gets eaten by animals... causing them to eventually starve.
it's all self-righteous outrage when it comes to a poor zoo creature's death, but it's "look the other way; who gives a crap?" when it comes to the real-world effects we're responsible for.
