The rule was discovered yet by Georg Mendel, the founder of genetics, in the mid-1800s. It's school basics: when one parent is, say, black, and the other is white, their children will be grey, and grandchildren will include 2 grey, 1 black and 1 white child of the four.
We got to know that stuff back in the USSR.
