from what i've read, it's not very useful or effective. seems the alcohol needs to be a very high-proof fancy label in order to get nice flavors, and the buzz is -still- pretty mild. so mostly this seems like just a novelty... like a variation of an aperitif or a dessert drink.
maybe one benefit would be improving crappy booze, since you'd get something of a distillation effect.
