#43, 44: I saw a TV or YouTube documentary on the crystal caves. At 112 degrees F and 100% humidity, the scientists needed environment suits to survive.
Sadly, the mining company that owns the caves could no longer afford to keep the massive pumps going to clear the chamber. I believe the pumps were shut down a few years ago and the cavern is refilled with water. The crystals are growing once again, but no one will ever see it.
This tunnel was shaped over many years, as trains traveled the line three times time a day, molding the surrounding trees. Now abandoned, the track is a romantic spot for an afternoon stroll.
