They were Air Canada employees at Toronto's Pearson Airport. It apparently was a packed flight and the overhead bins were full. The bags in the video were carry-on that didn't fit under the seat (gate checking carry-on is actually pretty common when the flight is full). Employees are suspended pending an investigation and will likely be terminated. It's kind of stupid. Carry-on used to be a jacket, a book, and maybe a purse or a small bag. 60% of passengers now have a huge knapsack, a laptop bag, a giant purse, a jacket, and a rolling suitcase as carry-on!! No wonder there's no space!!
so you're basically saying that ppl carry more luggage than in the past? hmm, maybe that's true. OTOH, bags that go in to transit storage require a fee from many airlines, now. so i can't blame ppl too much for trying to carry on as much as they can.
Maybe not so much more luggage but definitely more carry-on. It partially is the Airlines charging an arm and a leg for checked bags and then taking forever to get luggage to the pick up. It also has to do with everyone having more gadgets and stuff. 20 years ago very few people traveled with laptops and other devices compared with today. Fashion also has changed and so bags tend to be a lot bigger than before as well. I can remember my "big" backpack back in the mid 90's was big enough to hold a few books, a couple of CDs and my lunch. Now I could travel for a week with my backpack.
