Actually, I just paid attention to the title of this post - I'm not happy any of these wonderful things are extinct, they would make the world a more interesting place if they were still around.

Giant ant fossil this giant ant, named Titanomyrma lubei, lived 50 million years ago. Its body size was comparable to a hummingbirds.
