A lot of folks have claimed that's a hoax, and posted pictures of burned phones and destroyed microwaves to bolster their claim, but the Wave instructions specify a 700 or 800 watt microwave, and the pictures clearly show much more powerful ovens being used. Obviously using too powerful an oven is going to damage the phone, just the same way you can't plug that 120 volt microwave into a 220 volt outlet because it'll destroy it. The trick is to use the power settings and get the power set low enough for it to work. If you have a 1,000 watt oven, set it to 70 or 80% and that will get it down to the proper 700-800 watt range.
