When the new fire weapons came, they were unreliable, not very precise on long distances and took a long time to reload. Yet they replaced the bow and arrow relatively quickly. One of the reasons is believed to be the fact that it took at least two years to turn a dude into a skilled archer, while you could get a decent fire weapon marksman from days to a week. This made it quicker to replace lost soldiers and build a large army. I have wondered why it took two years to get a decent archer, perhaps it was the time it took to build the body... When seeing this video, it all makes sense. Becoming skilled like this and better would indeed take at least two years of heavy practice.
