here's the thing-- if you're japanese, you already know this stuff and a thousand other little rules. if you're not, you'll always be looked at as an outsider... therefore someone who's not expected to know this stuff. the japanese will teach you if it matters.

And the same for 14. I've seen elevators in big buildings without 4 and 14 and 24 and also 13 wasn't there... and also they took out 2 and 15 because they were service floors for workers. So it was really strange.
