the bigger problem is that as a people we quickly get hooked on the benefits of science while wanting little of the responsibilities that come with that.

we want to delegate the oversight to someone else and blame someone else when there's a problem.

so if it doesn't start at the grassroots level, the best you can hope for is a political party that is only -somewhat- influenced by lobbyists and politics. and those lose regularly to political parties that are far better liars and manipulators.
