Although the movies were filmed in New Zealand, Tolkien's books are based on ancient Norwegian mythologies. Looking at these pictures it's easy to see how the legends got started if you can visualize them without the modern buildings and electric lights.

#17 This one is Photoshopped. You do see the open ocean from this location but not as much as this. Some land to the right have been removed to make the photo more "artsy". I know this because I've been there.
#2 A lot of people going there are not aware that they must walk for 10km before they are at the Trolltunga cliff, and then go back again. The starting point is at the far end of that lake and below the dam. This means that it's a steep and high climb and a long walk. There was several rescue operations last summer because of tired people being surprised by the dark. I hope I can go there next summer.
