my concern would be-- you better be an expert in buttressing those walls, because people have asphyxiated / been crushed in these constructions.

True! A 10 year old girl died in Norway just a few days ago because a snow cave collapsed on her. A Gothic arch design on the roof and walls may be the best because that design distributes the weight of the roof to the walls.
