On May 2, 1990, messenger John Goddard was walking down a side street in the City of London when a stranger appeared out of nowhere, pulled a knife on him, and stole his briefcase. This would have been the most “profitable” mugging in history since the case contained £292 million in bonds. However, the thief wasn’t so lucky, as he was later found shot dead.
