Mat and Polly Hilton traveled 900 miles from Devon, England to Sète, in France for 56 days in a homemade 4 meter (13ft) timber boat they called “Dunlin.” They rowed for around six hours per day depending on weather conditions. Mr. Hilton a carpenter, built the boat from scratch and had also modified a tent so they could put it over the top of the vessel overnight.Husband and wife embarked on this adventurous journey to raise funds for “Save the Children's Child Refugee Appeal.” Mrs. Hilton said, “We endured some horrific weather at times… Over the course of the 56 day journey we probably only sailed five days.”
