#3 It is the correct way of using it. You put it inside the car and the heat coming through the windshield hits the aluminum then is reflected back to the w/s heating it more and more heat from the sun comes through; it then heats the inside of the car to a much higher temp. I've seen W/S on planes melt because the pilot put the screen inside reflecting the heat back.
