The intricate plot line of the "Assassin's Creed" series is hard to describe. It's a story within a story, and the main protagonist, Desmond Miles, is the crux — at least in the beginning of the series. You play through his memories, as an Assassin, trying to defeat the Knights Templar.

The best part about the series, however, is its historical accuracy. The game takes you to Italy, America during the Revolution, Paris during the French Revolution, and even the high seas in "Black Flag." You meet a range of historic characters along the way, from Leonardo Da Vinci to George Washington.

The open-world action adventure game is among the top in its genre, and it's worth playing through, even if only to check out the views.
