Chinese Giant Salamander

With a length of up to 180 cm (6 ft), the Chinese Giant Salamander is the largest salamander and largest amphibian in the world. These critically endangered animals belong to the ancient family Cryptobranchidae which is 170 million years old. The Giant Salamanders are still very similar to their ancient relatives, which is why they are often called “living fossils”.
