Elephant Seal
With a length of over 6 m (20 ft) and weigh of up to 4.5 tons, the Elephant Seal is by far the largest pinniped. However, these massive mammals aren’t called elephant seals because of their enormous size – they take their name from their trunk-like inflatable snouts. There are two species of the Elephant Seal – northern (found in California) and southern (found in sub-Antarctic and Antarctic waters).
