Maitotoxin is considered by most people who know about these things to be the most potent marine toxin. It grows in a type of dinoglagellate called Gambierdiscus toxicus, and if those words confused you, just think of deadly plankton, and you get the general idea. In mice, maitotoxin has the highest toxicity for nonprotein toxins.
