it does not "generate" faces, it combines images it learned from. All the "neural network" (not AI) does is keep the proportions in check so you don't end up with creepy images like it did after doing same exercise on cat pictures.
Thispersondoesnotexist.com is a new site where you can find photos of nonexistent people. Those images are generated by a neural network StyleGAN, which was developed by Nvidia engineers. Each time you refresh the page, AI generates a new face of a person who does not exist in reality.
