Artist Edvard Munch (known for his painting ‘The Scream’) based this piece on the despair of losing his mother to tuberculous when he was just five years old. Several owners of the painting have claimed that the little girl’s eyes will follow you, the mother’s bed sheets will rustle, and the girl’s form will appear to come slightly forward out of the canvas.
