#1 is totally utterly b@#$$%t. By adding the screw you are introducing inaccuracies, not to mention that if you are measuring trimmings or pre-painted material you will ruin it. Yes, it is handy if you need to measure from a crew or nail, but any good tape measure has tiny spikes on the lip that grips when you measure.

The person who started these false "correct ways of doing things" is an absolute d@#$$%s.
The correct way to cut a piece of Toblerone is by pushing it downward.
Our favorite airport chocolate always makes us struggle when we just want one piece. But, in reality, we’ve been doing it wrong all along. Instead of pushing the chocolate pieces backward in order to break them, press the pointy side of the chocolate down in order to get your piece.
