#15 is becoming more common as people in scooters and wheelchairs have thought they could use the escalator. We have to idiot proof society for them though I think we should let Darwin do his thing.

The pole are there so scooter and wheelchair people don't use the escalator. There have been fatal accident with it before, its not a bad or flaws design.
Also, picture with female hair hanging over the seat. What's the problem with that? It's just girl hair and they are not on you or your face.
