#13. This BS is used by mechanics to justify sky-high "by the job" bills, instead of sticking to a fixed hourly rate.

If you're worth $120 an hour, then charge me that. Don't charge me $500 for the same time, and claim it's because of you're awesome.

I knew a mechanic who owned his own shop. When he had the place professionally painted, he screamed bloody murder when they charged him by the job instead of by the hour.

Sadly, car mechanics charge the book rate, or the number of hours the job takes according to the book.

If a mechanic can do a 3-hour job in an hour, they charge you for 3 hours.

Some shops also pay their mechanics for how many hours they billed, not how many hours they worked.

A good mechanic can get paid for 12 hours, even if he only worked 8.

@Following & Gorgeous:
You´re free to get an estimate - final price has a max of 10% to that.
A mechanic myself I would go to the best, not the cheapest.
It´s your life depending on it - should be worth your $$.
Or you can do it yourself if you´re skilled, but then you still need the tools.
