#9 this is bs. Just like any other colony, German south west Africa was taken away after ww1. It was controlled by South Africa and called south-west Africa until 1990.
Most of these are examples of the local people ridding their country of their colonial names. Too many times, incorrect names are applied to places for the sake of a foreigner's convenience. eg Munich and Cologne are not the names of the places.....
The country of Cape Verde changed its name to the Republic of Cabo Verde, or simply “Cabo Verde” back in 2013 as a nod to the original inhabitants of the islands back in 1444.

#4 well, the more important thing that happened was 1993 when Czechoslovakia separated into Czechia and Slovakia.
