I've seen a lot of those friendship bracelets in Rome. They often ask you where you are from and now a few words in your language. I always feel sorry for those guys. If they had a better perspective in life they wouldn't need to put so much effort in scams.

Good tips, I think I’ve become to hardened for any of them to work on me. I just ignore anyone that comes up to me that I don’t know.

I have two rules while traveling to touristy cities - don't take anything from anyone and no one does absolutely anything for free. I made sure my husband knew my two rules before we went to Time's Square and within 2 blocks he had a CD in his hand.

In Europe when traveling with car. They wait for good Samaritans that always want help. They have broken car,
an need little help and same time steal. Or they have a not working card at tge gasstation and offer fake money for if you want to use your card. At gasstations or parking places, they give free an amulet or something with a gps chip inside. They first copied your car key signal and with gps take the car or search the car from your next stop. They also go smarter and good with tech.
Best tip, ignore strangers, dont be helpfull or polite and if its in your ability react little agressive on situations when you feel a scam comming. They look for your moment for understanding a situation and in those one or two minutes you are already losing your valuable items.

If a scammer asks you where you’re from, give a wrong answer or pretend that you speak another lsnguage.

Thailand:
After leaving Grand Palace in Bangkok a "local teacher" showed up "Waiting for his school class" and in addition gave as hints for the next places to visit. He then waved for a BLUE tuk tuk and adviced not to use the green one....
For luck I already knew just to go around by cab. Less hassle, cheaper and much more secure
