Steve McQueen developed mesothelioma and contributes his ailment to his days in the marines when he scraped/removed huge amounts of asbestos insulation from ship pipes and breathed it in. It’s only dangerous if ingested or breathed in and that exposure came long before he was on movie sets.

Its the internets, proof is not needed..

In the ’20s and ’30s, movie sets actually used asbestos to give off the illusion of snow. Some actors, like Steve McQueen, got very sick later in life and believed it contributed to their deaths.
