Appy, Uh...no. I use mechanical pencils all the time and have no problem buying these. Any decent art supply store has 'em.

The 90's always trying to steal other generations stuff. Polaroid didn't belong to you. Personally I thought the 90s was when the cartoons went downhill and so did the general quality of toys. I had a couple much younger siblings so yeah I got to find out first hand, but there were some good stores still around that are now long gone and sorely missed.
