Why all parents have to "trick out" their children nowadays? What about a little bit of old fashion authority?

Sam,
Because it does not always have to be a conflict. There a time for authority, and then, there's the recognition your kid may be tired or anxious, so a little trickery is okay.

Sam, you'll see the use of this if you ever get kids of your own. Authority doesn't always work well with a stubborn kid, so trust me, when you can get some peace and quiet by some simple trickery you'll do it.

Sam,

Yeah, just demanding things doesn't always work. Plus most if these are obviously for 4 or 5 year olds. Are you gonna scream at or hit a 4 year old? Besides that, forcing a kid to do something only ensures they actively won't do what you want when they can get away with it and gets them to hate you. If you can get them to do things on their own, like the holding hands thing, they do what you would like them to do AND will make them a better person.
