Thanks for the kind post. I live in the US and even though we have a lot of turmoil I still love living here. Once you get out of the huge cities you get to see the “real” US and there is so much diversity from the east coast to the west. As a follow-up to the comment about Italy above - I’ve been there - beautiful country with tons of history. Loved it - and yes, it also has a lot of diversity.

Man, some of them are true and that's great. But if something is not true, it's "well educated" and that's part of the problems you have right now. Yes, the best universities in the world are in the US, but while climbing the top with some students you leave the majority behind. with educational standards far behind those in other western countries

Inez, when you compare the difficult grading system of the US to other modern standards, it shows why the education system actually seems lower comparatively. I learned this recently and was so surprised at what the grading curve is in other countries. I thought it was basically the same everywhere, but it’s a lot more difficult in the US. It’s not fair, tbh.

Inez,
best educated and location aren't the same. that's ignorant. we do have the well educated here, even if they were educated someplace else. they all keep moving here. e.g. India has the best doctors in the world. but they move to the USA because better resources and pay.

As a European who lived in the US in 2010-2011, I disagree with quite a lot of statements made in this post, but there's one thing I loved about american people, it's their optimism. Never fails. Very optimistic people and that's probably why they overcame so many issues and always went forward despite everything. #15 ftw then.

The biggest difference?

Consumerism.

Other countries you go to buy butter. There's 1 maybe 2 kinds. America, you have dozens of choices from butter to margarine to "I can't believe it's not butter" to flavored butter to low-fat butter and I'm just getting started.

This applies to everything consumer-related.

Everything else on this list, lots of other countries have.

I have a Russian friend and they said this is so true.

In Russia, doesn't matter what's going on, you always assume the worst is going to happen. But it's ok because Russians are strong and you just drink a vodka and forget about your upcoming bad future.

In America, doesn't matter what's going on, you always assume things are going to get better. No need to fix any problems or worry about them, somehow they'll all just magically disappear! Eternal optimism or naivete?

I'm American btw.

Well educated depends on where you happen to live and how much money you make. The better schools are in the better areas, the poorer schools in the poorer areas and many teachers do not want to work at such locations. Professional civil service is something else many are taking issue with currently here in the US.

In the spirit of quid pro quo, what I most admire about Europe and the UK is their high standards in food quality. Here in the US, out FDA allows all kind of unhealthy additives and preservatives that your countries have wisely banned. Also here and in NZ are the only two countries that allow direct to consumer prescription drug advertising.
