Quote: Dahl
Focault's Pendulum doesn't work during an eclipse

The effect you're mentioning has a name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allais_effect

It's been discovered over 60 years ago and has some serious research to it - but "flat earth" is none of it.

If you believe the earth is flat, you have a mental disability and need medical attention - plain and simple. Society needs to stop perpetrating this retards delusions

Franky,
baby i never said it was flat. I said Focault's Pendulum proves nothing.
Ever heard of the scientific method? If a thesis can´t be veryfied ad infinitum, it is void. The communists used to label critics as mentally ill to silence them.

Hey Dahl. The eclipse affects normal function of the pendulum. It doesn't cancel it. Very slippery of you to preemptively insult those that wish to show their disagreement towards you. Here's a emphatic thumbs down for ya.

Bab,
but you can´t explain why! You've just proven my preemptive point.

So: let´s take a look at what the opposition has come forward so far:
One ad hominem attack, and one based on empathy.
Big brain time.

Dahl. You're going into conniptions over an aberration in the function of the pendulum. You clearly said that the pendulum doesn't work during an eclipse. It does work. I just works differently during the eclipse. No, scientists do not yet know why, but it does not completely negate the pendulum hypothesis.

Bab,
you know, Focaults Pendulum is hinged, so it supports the rotation of the pendulum, don't you? Ever heard of another great 'proof' focault came up with - his gyroscope?
Warm tip - get yourself a gyroscope, but be warned - it might destroy your whole worldview.

Bab,
you sound like a reasonable being. As you stated it's just a (hypo)thesis. As valid as: the motion of the pendulum is caused by the rotation of the ether. Tesla would smirk over that one, I´m 100% sure. I was once like you. In fact I wanted to know it for myself. That was when I did some experiments with a gyroscope, like Focault did, only with a better gyro... 2nd hand knowledge is a dangerous thing!
Keep your mind open and do some empiric research! The truth shall set you free.

Greg,
I have a college education - and you?

Btw. cognitive dissonance wasn't meant as an insult, but an observation.

Dahl. Now you're talking nonsense. Hinged? It hangs from a hook that is through a circular eyelet.

Anyone who thinks the earth is flat is too dumb to argue with, or insult for that matter. You're not going to come to an agreement.
