If I bought something that rare, then yes, steel casing. Only a hundred such albums like it on Earth, and he trusts it to a chain of dozens of low paid overworked people who deal with thousands of items per day?

Vinyl records can and do get repaired all of the time, some with shellac, some with a microlaser welding process, and some with a special bonding cement specially created to repair rare records.

Requiring a signature doesn't always work. A friend of mine had it specified for a pistol he bought, and they still just left it sitting on his front deck.
