Words come and go and often get changed over time based on location and culture. Stick to older literature if you want to expand your word knowledge. Much of today's writing would be considered substandard.

I knew six of those words. Should I be worried?

Loren, no. Probably the same six I knew. Maybe because we have a vocabulary greater than a 6th grader.
Lackadaisical
Someone who is being Lackadaisical is someone who shows no real interest in anything. They seem to lack enthusiasm for, well, anything.
