I'm old enough to remember AOL disks and dial-up being the only way to get online. There were also local server BBS's which would allow small groups of people to interact.

And yes, things were new and interesting, but it's being romanticized a lot. You can still find non-professional Youtube videos and personal content. Videos don't have that "cr#ppy webcam" look anymore simply because the cameras have gotten way better.

But, a lot of the same irritants around now were around then, too. Yet, in all, the Internet is far better than it used to be.

Napster was a lot of fun & I used to have a ton of friends on the Kaaza chat rooms. Chatrooms with people instead of bots. Not having 95% of your viewspace taken up by ads. No pop ups. I used XP service pack 3 up until about 4 years ago. I hate windows 10, but it is a necessity. I also loved the DOS games and floppy drives. Megabytes were everything. Now TB is just a whole vast universe of space.
