Tick, Functionally, they're not that different. I have speakers, and headphones on a splitter, and if I tap my headphones while the speakers are on, you can hear the noise over the speakers. I would work, just not as well as an actual mic.
#2 Had a similar thing happen in my hard top convertible. Wife left her phone on the roof. I put the roof down, which tucks nicely in the trunk space. When we got home, the phone was still on the roof!
