Yeah...You had me until the end. "Nice dude" signed the contract. "Nice dude" is responsible for the bill. "Chads" would have gotten a separate check. This is complete Bravo Sierra.

Damn, I hope that's a true story. re:gerald, nice dude signed the contract, @$$holes abused it. Evidently, nice dude outranked @$$holes and informed them of their status and the reasons that they had that status. And then told them how they can start reclaiming it. The "chads" deserved the comeuppance. Well done.
