I don't understand why these people are so proud that their children have to wear hand-me downs from their childhood. Why would anyone want to admit to being so poor they can't buy new cloths for their kids.

They are showing off the time gap and that they have a family connection. Don't be THAT person.

I hardly think that's the case, it's just an interesting photo. Who in their right minds would keep a jumper for 27 yrs just in case they're poor when they're older.

Wilson, this does not mean that they are poor, for example, all babies in the British royal family wear the same clothes for a given ceremony for more than a century. It is considered a tradition. Just like these people who take pictures of their children in the same clothes they wore. As for the question of poverty, probably, a "poor" person like you mentioned will not take a photo of this type, because the clothes they can acquire do not have the strength or quality to last this time.
