Irene, You are correct. When I was a kid, it was called "commodities". They made monthly stops and the poor could get that cheese, flour, corn meal, peanut butter and a few other things to hold body and soul together. Personally, I despise cheese of any kind. It stinks and I find it disgusting. But, those that ate cheese back in those days, said that the commodity cheese was the best they had ever eaten. Next month I'll be 74 and, yes, I knew every one of them.

lol I have that exact same Crock Pot in the exact same olive green color. 40 years, still works like a charm! It was my mom's and when she passed, I grabbed that up. I have a newer one too, but I just can't let the old green one go. Too many wonderful memories and meals.

#19 I'm pretty sure meat tenderizers aren't some mythic long-forgotten relic, it's just (IMHO) that less people seem interested in home-cooking and so less folk are now familiar with such tools... In this case: laziness breads ignorance.

I take serious exception to most of these!
You don't have to be old to know 90% of them... You just have to not be a stupid, sheltered jack@$$...
And being from freaking buzzfeed... I'm not surprised at all they fit that bill!

You guys don't use n. 5 anymore and just mix your potatoes to a glazy mass? We wouldn't eat it. You can look it up, we even use a 'passe-vite' in Belgium and France to make the best mashed potatoes, this is if we have the time to do it, if not we use n. 5. We never mix. Try it, the taste is so much better.
