Clem,
i will never understand how is it even possible to pay less than a minimum wage and shift the wage burden on your customers...

Clem,
Pay a decent wage and tips wouldn't be required. As it stands now, servers and bartenders get BELOW minimum wage because of tips. Complain to the government

As a former bartender and server, I can confirm that people are @$$holes.

Alverta, Not all of them. Most of my customers were great. Especially my regulars. Yeah, there were the @$$holes but for the most part my experience has been wonderful. I worked in a touristy city and had both the locals and tourists alike. Two places I worked were popular and always busy --in the weeds a lot lol. I feel for the other people who work in retail who earn minimum wage and have to deal with far more obnoxious people. Mine were always tipsy. lol I love happy people. I made my customers, well, happy! lol

I bet most of these @$$holes have never worked in the hospitality industry and have had to deal with unpleasant , demanding customers. Most of these workers depend on their tips and work hard for them. I tip every time when someone serves me at a restaurant , bar or hairdresser. Oh btw , I used to work at a bar while in university years ago to pay for my studies. We knew who were the non tippers. I will just leave it at that.

I give fake money to panhandlers, there is a guy who stands on the corner with his son and his wife and other kids work around the corner.
I ordered a bunch of fake money and gave him, his son and family fake $50.00 dollars bills. Hate me if you want.

I was a server and a bartender for over a decade. My tips per shift far outweighed any minimum wage jobs weekly pay for full/part-time hours. Plus, I only had to claim %10 percent of my cash tips (most of them were) to the IRS, whereas I had to claim the full amount of my pay to the IRS with all of my previous employers when I worked jobs in high school for minimum wages.

So, for those against the tipping system and saying minimum wage is better? It's not. I easily cleared $300 per night on weekends. Holidays even more. Especially the night before Thanksgiving (my biggest tip night every year) and New Years Eve where gratuities were pre-fixed with ticket.

If you're working at a tipping establishment and not clearing a certain amount per shift? You either suck as a server or your clientele sucks. Either way, change to a better place of employment.

#28 How much of a tip were they expecting after a story like that and a payment under protest for $8.92.
