You signed a contract as an adult, and now you don't know how to pay it back. The truth is, you NEVER knew how you'd live up to your end of the agreement.

This is because your poor planning, not your victimhood.

If you get student loan relief then your degree should be taken away. You got a degree to enable yourself to earn more and live a better life, then you don't want to pay for it. If you get a mortgage and then cant pay it after a few years, the bank takes it back. You should not be able to benefit with something you agreed to pay for then defaulted.

Juanita,Thanks largely in part to your soon to be scumbag in chief. I'm talking about Biden, by the way. Student loan debt cannot be discharged by bankruptcy. So there is no 'default'. Student debt will follow you to the grave. I would not be shocked if it was soon made transferable to future generations such is the level of filth that keep getting elected to office in the US.

Well, the downvotes must be from ppl who never
had to give away an outrageous amount of their earnings.
To politicians who can not be held accountable for wasting their tax money,
or enriching themselves.

100% you're own fault. You signed it, you agreed to it. If you couldn't pay it off then you shouldn't have gone to that school and applied for it.
More ignorant millennial BS.

Stupidity is painful, $80,000.00 on a degree that pays $30,000.00 a year. You should have taken economics.

What gets lost in the conversation about college loan debt is the absolutely ridiculous increase in college costs over the last 20 years. We should be demanding they lower costs or accepting less fluff (do you really need 10 diversity executive level positions?) but no, we want to bail out students who voluntarily chose to take on the loans.

Hard to have sympathy for folks that got a Liberal Arts degree. All of these folks were adults when they started their degree program. Would have been far better off pursuing a trade but a lot of people think that's below them. My nephew in his mid 20s is making $125k+ a year as a pipefitter. He's a supervisor and that includes overtime - but still he is light years ahead of these people.

Marge, As far as I know, courses that taught you how to weld etc. have been removed from the curriculum in High Schools in the last decade or two. One can only wonder why that might be..

What were you thinking?

People who go into debt for a student loan are idiots. Usually for a liberal arts degree too that will get you 3/5 of f@#k all when you retire. Went to trade school. They paid me to learn and now I make over 100k a year. No debt.

How we put our people in debt for life. Especially when you cant even make enough to pay the interest and your debt keeps going up.

Ronald, "WE" didn't put anyone in debt. They put themselves in debt! What some of you may not know is that tuition and books aren't the only things that cause the debt. Students can and do borrow to live on, buy clothes, etc!!! They are too stupid to see the hole they are digging. But, it's like the old saying, "When you are in a hole, STOP DIGGING"!

Delf, "exept"? "dept"(twice)? "finnish"? "bacuse"? "citizes"? Yep, you really got a quality education! I graduated high school, served in the Marine Corps (3yrs) and made a great living all my life. I'm now 73 and retired with income that is about 4 times my outgo. AND, it doesn't snow where I live!!!

I despise people who say 'you signed the contract' like it has been carefully considered by wise, pipe smoking researchers instead of a 17 year old hormonal disaster dreaming of a bright future. Student loans is a FOR PROFIT business. Where there are profits, there are lies, half truths, wildly exaggerated promises.

Albert,

Such enablist thinking. At any other venue of life, they're "adult" enough to be stomping in windshields on police cars and breaking windows with skateboards, yet when they rack up debt on a useless degree, they're suddenly pie eyed teenage "hormonal disasters dreaming of a bright future". Can you actually keep yourself from rolling your own eyes at that tripe? XD

I said it before, and say it again: You live in the wrong country. In Norway, all education is free, exept books etc. Yes we pay taxes, but we are not in dept when we finnish the education. Some have student dept bacuse of the need to pay rent for apartments, but that is chosen. But no way near 100k+. Maybe around 20-30k.
The big problem with USA, is that the tax is so low, and the rich nearly do not pay taxes. Giving birth is free in Norway, changing a heart, free. Tax is king.

Higher education is even free for US citizes in Norway. I pay for it, but i gladly do so.

Delf, but not everyone can or will get higher education, the majority won't -but those ppl have to finance the Universities with their hard earned money. You sound like an entitled brat, that thinks he is so much better than everyone else because he has got a degree. You are just a mindwiped Borg drone.

Delf, Norway is an extremely rich country because of the oil industry.
Free healthcare isn't free, nor is education. Socialism privatizes the profits and communalizes the losses. When an institution such as a state is allowed to do something, that a single man is not - it's tyranny! Can I say: "Pay me money every month, or I and my friends take let's say your house from you with force!" ?!?
No, I can't. That's tyranny - aka the religion of statism.
