Cheap jump scares are the cause of these increased heart rates. Most of these movies are the cinema equivalent of an air horn in your ear. They are NOT scary. Try The Thing 1982, The Exorcist, The Omen, Poltergeist 1982 and stay away from the remakes.

I've always found that the first Alien movie is adequately scary for me.

Outbreak, Dustin Hoffmann and Russo. Scariest movie I've ever watched in my life. Pre and post 'Rona.

Nabby,

Loved the film, you might also enjoy Contagion which is along the same lines. One of my favorite scary movies and I don't usually care for horror is As Above so Below. Great for anyone who hates confined places.

It Follows is quite disturbing. An example of persistence hunting.

The platform “BroadbandChoices” did a study where the heart rate of viewers was measured while they were watching the highest-rated (on “IMDb”, “Rotten Tomatoes”, and “Reddit”) horror films. So, here are the results.

10th place: The Visit, 2015
IMDb score — 6.2
Heart rate: 79–100 bpm

15-year-old Becca and 13-year-old Tyler are going to their grandparents. They had never seen them before their mother had a conflict with them. The grandparents are happy to see their grandchildren, but they tell them not to leave their room after 9:30 PM. And soon, the kids will find out why.
