If your company allows outgoing OOF messages to other email systems they are a spammers delight. That is a bad practice. Besides, some email system admins turn off incoming OOF messages as well.
My favourite when I was on call and often spent all night in the office as well. I got an email from my boss, at home, after office hours Fri telling me to contact him urgently as soon as I got into the office. I was called in at midnight on SAt/sun and while I was waiting for the fixes to go through at 2am, I rang him at his home asking what was so urgent!! He wanted to push for disciplinary action, but the personnel people refused to comply being as I had only done exactly what he had asked me to do.
