For the 1000th time "Bless your heart" is not a slam in any manner. Trust me. I'm from the US South. 99% of the time when someone FROM THE SOUTH says this they are trying to convey empathy. As in "That's so sad" or "You poor thing".

Well, when it comes from somebody from the SOUTH it must be true :-).

#11 - this is from Faulkner's famous swipe at Hemingway. Hemingway's retort was just as good: "Poor Faulkner. Does he really think big emotions come from big words?"
