Not to mention that the rednecks are so proud not to have standard "socialised" healthcare like 99% of first world countries, and are more than happy to bankrupt themselves paying for it

60 years ago but, I remember it as though it was last week.
I was a young married apprentice. My wife's water broke @ midnight and our first child was born @ 6am. I, happily, rushed to get to work @ 8am. My boss congratulated me and told me to take the day off to be with my wife and child.
When I got my pay, I found that I was docked for the day HE gave me off to celebrate. Never forgot that.

Going to work sick now is out the window. It could cause the whole place to shut down for two+ weeks if every staff member is in quarantine because of one person got COVID at a family party and then came to work with symptoms. Everybody, even if negative are quarantined as mask are not 100% effective better just take the 14 days off to make sure you didn't get the COVID.
