Their is evidence that the suicide rate is atm lower than ever before because of therapy and medication, but I doesn't look like evidence is something you care about.
Therapy is like vaccines or medicine in general: for the last 12000 years, people just died when they were sick.

Edny would be surprised to find out just how many therapists have their own therapist from having to deal with the likes of *gestures broadly* you all people. Even Edny, whether or not aware, is having therapy right now by blowing off steam in the comments section. Like talk, it is another harmless way to redirect steam that might otherwise be directed less harmlessly at a spouse, a kid, a co worker, or just some innocent schmo.
