#1 in 1982 there was an El Nino event. Large surf uncovered the old El Segundo oil pier (that had been destroyed years earlier). The large surf from that winter washed a whole bunch of pier material up on the beach. My 16 year old buddies and I used that wood to light campfires that summer (it was cold) after surfing. We got the bright idea to cook marshmallows over creosote soaked burning wood. This picture reminds me of that bit of misadventure.
